The format comes out of Southeast Asian bathhouse traditions, where the room was built for it and the water was the architecture rather than a fixture. Every version that has travelled since has been an adaptation to plumbing it did not choose, which is why it is the format most affected by the building. A hotel bathroom in a converted canal-side building and one in a modern block near the water are effectively two different services, and neither the house nor the therapist has any say in which one the room came with.
How it is worked
The first half uses warm water and a soft foam applied by hand, with long slow contact and no pressure to speak of. The point is temperature and surface rather than depth. The second half is ordinary slow oil work on the bed, and the transition is deliberately unhurried, with drying off treated as part of the session rather than an interruption of it. She keeps the water warm throughout the first half, which sounds obvious and is the detail that separates a good soapy booking from a cold one.

The opening is in the bathroom and takes a while, because warm water and foam are not rushed. She brings what she needs. What makes a hotel bathroom workable for this?
Look for room to stand beside the shower and a screen that does not cut the space in half. A walk-in shower is ideal and a bath with floor space beside it works. If it is a narrow cubicle with a folding door, the answer is no, and body to body or oil work gives the two of you a better evening in the same room.
Can both of us be in the bathroom half?
Not usefully at the same time, in most rooms. With a therapist each the pair usually run the two halves offset, so one session is in the bathroom while the other is on the bed, and they meet in the middle. With one therapist between you she works through it in turn. Either way, say the room has two guests in the first message.
Is the whole session in the bathroom?
No, and that is the commonest misunderstanding about it. The bathroom half is the opening, usually the shorter of the two, and the session finishes on the bed as oil work. Booking an hour and expecting the whole of it in the shower leads to an evening nobody enjoyed, which is why ninety minutes is the length the house suggests.
