The eight hour block for two on a last night ashore

Eight hours priced as a single block, not as an hourly figure left running. For two guests it is 2,500 euros with one therapist and 5,760 with a therapist each, and where in the night the eight hours sit is your decision rather than the house’s. On a cruise trip this is a last night ashore booking, not a pre-cruise one. A block ending at six in the morning and a transfer leaving at seven is a plan that reads well on paper and badly in a coach. Couples who take it are almost always on the far side of a voyage, with a flight home late the following day and nothing at all fixed before it.

Where it comes from

The block exists because the hourly model does not survive a long night. Anything charged by the hour turns into arithmetic somewhere around the fourth one, and arithmetic is the opposite of what a long booking is for. Fixing a single figure across eight hours was the simplest way to remove it, and it has the side effect of making the booking legible in advance, which matters to a couple planning a shore night from another continent weeks before they land.

How it is worked

There is no single technique across eight hours, and pretending otherwise would misdescribe it. The work moves between formats as the night goes, with the slow oil vocabulary carrying most of it and the rest decided in the room by the therapist. What is consistent is the pacing: long stretches, real breaks, and nothing compressed to fit. Where two therapists are booked, they work in turn as often as together, which is what makes eight hours sustainable for everyone in the room.

What the hour holds

It is a long evening rather than a long treatment, and it is paced as one. The work comes in stretches with real gaps between them, and the gaps are part of the booking rather than time being wasted. She brings what she needs for the whole of it. Limits are stated at the start of the visit, in her own words, and eight hours does not soften them or make them negotiable later. For two guests with a therapist each, the pair agree their shape between themselves at the outset and hold to it. The block ends when the eight hours end, without anyone watching a clock in the last half hour.

Who asks for it

A first or second night back on land, with a flight home the following evening and nothing before it. A couple who have decided the shore night is the trip rather than an addition to it. It suits a room the two of you keep until late checkout. It does not suit the night before an embarkation, and the house will say so rather than take the booking quietly.

What it leaves you with

Nobody is counting. That is the entire benefit and it is larger than it sounds, because an hourly booking quietly organises an evening around its own ending and a block does not. For a couple who have just spent a week on a fixed timetable, with meals and departures set by somebody else, an evening with no schedule in it is the actual product.

Length

The block is eight hours at one figure: 1,250 euros for a single guest, 2,500 for a couple sharing one therapist, 2,880 for two therapists on one guest and 5,760 for a couple with a therapist each. It is not the hourly ladder left running. Half confirms it in every case, so 1,250 goes ahead on the couple block with one therapist. Where the eight hours begin is yours to place, subject only to the hours the room is actually yours.

Questions

Overnight

Can we book the block for the night before we board?

You can, and it is worth thinking about twice. Eight hours ending at six with a transfer at seven leaves no margin for anything, and the morning is set by somebody who will not be asked. Couples who want a long booking around a sailing almost always get more out of it on the night they come ashore, when the only fixed point is a flight the next evening.

Does the room have to be ours for the whole eight hours?

Yes, and that is the only real constraint on where the block sits. Checkout has a way of arriving earlier than anyone planned for, and a block that runs past it is not a block. Count backwards from the hour the room stops being yours and place the eight hours inside that.

Is the block cheaper per hour than booking three hours twice?

It works out lower per hour, though that is a by-product rather than the point. The figure is fixed at 2,500 for a couple with one therapist because the night is sold as one thing. Booking two separate sessions on the same night is a different arrangement with two arrivals and two endings in it, which is precisely what the block is designed to avoid.
